Classifications unchanged for city, area schools

No city or area schools have changed classifications for the 2002-2003 academic year, according to enrollment numbers released by the Kansas State High School Activities Assn.

Lawrence High and Free State High remain in Class 6A, the largest classification, based on enrollments of sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Lawrence High’s student body stands at 1,302. Free State has 1,204 students. Shawnee Mission East is the state’s largest school with 1,603 enrollees.

Lawrence’s Seabury Academy, the newest member of the KSHSAA, debuted with 33 students and was placed in 1A, the smallest classification.

Area schools remaining in Class 4A with enrollments in parentheses are Ottawa (484), Tonganoxie (380), Baldwin (319), Santa Fe Trail (310), Eudora (267) and Perry-Lecompton (252).

Oskaloosa remains in Class 3A with 176 students and McLouth stays in 2A with 123 enrolled.
