FCE and 4-H news

Stull FCE will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Pat Salbach. The lesson topic will be “Decorating with Antiques.” Members are asked to bring a covered dish for potluck lunch.

  • The Meadowlark 4-H Club met Nov. 12 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Members sang “Turkey Dinner” and “Turkey Trouble.”

Members answered roll call by naming what they were most thankful for. Reese Randall was introduced as a new member. Members decided to serve concessions at Bull Blast and to work at the Lawn and Garden show.

Members are encouraged to help children with gift buying Dec. 14 at the Lawrence Arts Center. Kyle Morgison gave a photography talk. After the meeting, treats were distributed by the Magnusons.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at Mr. Gatti’s. Members will eat pizza, have a gift exchange and make tray favors. After the meeting members will go caroling and then to St. John the Evangelist church for 4-H Sunday.

  • The Kanwaka 4-H Club had its achievement banquet Nov. 3 at Kanwaka Hall.

The club installed new officers for 2002-2003. They are: Amber Budenbender, president; Curtis Wakeman, vice president; Jason McCandless, secretary; Scott Bronoski, treasurer; Shon Price, reporter; Jennifer Crawford and Jennifer McCandless, photographers; Amber Budenbender and Scott Bronoski, county council representatives; Joanna Wakeman, historian; Scott Bronoski, parliamentarian; P.J. Budenbender and B.J. Simpson, song leaders; Stuart Wakeman and Justin McCandless, recreation leaders; Jennifer Hughes, junior president; Joanna Wakeman, junior vice president; Alex Price, junior secretary; Jennifer McCandless, junior treasurer; and Mandy Dray, junior reporter.

Margaret Wulfkuhle, who was a charter member when the club was formed in December 1927 in the home of Ralph Colman, was a guest. Also present were Elmer Johanning, who was a member from 1930 to 1940; Linda Wulfkuhle Cecchini, who was a member from 1956 to 1963; and Virginia A. Wulfkuhle, who was a member from 1957 to 1965. Special guests included Cathy and Doug Musick of the Douglas County 4-H Extension office.

In December, the club will celebrate its 75th birthday. It’s the oldest 4-H Club in Douglas County. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kanwaka Hall.

  • The November meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club was called to order by Libby Queen, president. Members answered roll call by naming what they are thankful for.

It was announced that enrollment cards are due to the extension office by Sunday. The annual Bromelsick Party will be Dec. 14.

The club voted to donate money to LINK for Thanksgiving dinners and to adopt a family for the holidays.

The club will have a winter party at its Dec. 9 meeting. Members will have a gift exchange, and families are to bring a finger food to share. Families should bring nonperishable food items for the adopted family. The club will wrap gifts and make ornaments for the family. Hat and mitten donations will be taken.
