James ‘Jimmy Mack’ Jones

Memorial services for James Michael “Jimmy Mack” Jones, 56, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Holidome convention center. A reception will follow at Cactus Jones, 534 Frontier Road.

He died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was cremated, and his ashes will be delivered to his favorite diving spot on the Barrier Reef at San Pedro, Belize.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Wellington, the son of Bob and Betty Jones. He attended Wellington High School and graduated from Kansas University with an English degree.

Mr. Jones worked for the Santa Fe Railway in high school and college before working in the bar industry in Lawrence and Kansas City. He owned and operated Jet Lag Lounge in Lawrence for 18 years.

He was a life member of the Kansas University Alumni Association and a member of KU’s Williams Education Fund and Theta Nu Epsilon. He was a founder of the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade and other social events.

He married Brenda R. Theno on June 26, 1999. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Casey, Kansas City, Mo., and Tyler, U.S. Navy; three stepchildren, Lisa, Stephen and Rodney, of the home; his mother, Wellington; and three sisters, Judy, Wellington, and Janet and Karilyn, both of Wichita.

The family suggests memorials to the “Jimmy Mack” Jones Football Scholarship Fund at the Williams Education Fund, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
