There was a controversy about whether to name North Lawrence’s Lyon Park after the late John E. Taylor, who had died the past year at age 77. There was sentiment for the park to bear his name because of his many contributions as a civic leader. It was decided later not to make the change in favor of the Taylor supporters.

IN 1902

From the Lawrence Daily World of Nov. 27, 1902: “Dr. Cristion, the French beauty doctor, who lectured at the opera house and gave the ladies inestimable information on all skin and facial blemishes, has left Mme. L.M. Mayer, B.D., his assistant, at the Lawrence House. She will welcome the ladies from 9 a.m. till 8 p.m. every day until Saturday night. Every lady should take this opportunity of consulting her free of charge about facial blemishes.”
