Offices closed for holiday

Government and public service offices in Lawrence and surrounding towns will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

All Lawrence-area city halls, county, state and district court offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Federal offices and courts will be closed Thursday but reopen Friday.

Banks will be closed Thursday but reopen Friday.

There are no classes at Kansas University today through Friday, and KU offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Residential trash collections scheduled for Thursday in Lawrence will be made Friday. Friday and Saturday commercial trash collection will be completed on the usual schedule.

The Lawrence Transit System and T-Lift will not run Thursday. Both systems will return to their usual schedules Friday. Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not operate today through Friday.

Downtown parking will be free Thursday.

All Lawrence city recreation centers will close at 5 p.m. today, and adult basketball and volleyball games scheduled for today have been postponed. Carl Knox Natatorium is closed today. The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center will close at 5 p.m. today. All will be closed Thursday.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will offer a 9 a.m. Thursday public shotgun start.

There will be no mail delivery Thursday, and post offices will be closed.

All UPS operations will stop Thursday, and there will be air shipments only Friday. Normal pickup and delivery will resume Saturday.

The state mandates that liquor stores close on Thanksgiving.
