NBA Roundup: Shaq slack in Lakers’ loss

? Shaquille O’Neal was rusty, Kobe Bryant fought foul trouble and the Miami Heat played like anything but a last-place team.

O’Neal was only ordinary in his third game back from toe surgery, scoring 15 points as Miami won for only the third time this season, beating the Los Angeles Lakers 97-85 Tuesday night. The Lakers fell to 2-1 since O’Neal’s return.

“To beat anybody right now is big for us,” said Eddie Jones, who led the Heat with 18 points.

Reserves Mike James and LaPhonso Ellis sparked the Heat (3-10), who came into the game tied for last place in the Atlantic Division. James scored 14 points and Ellis 13, and both sank key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Kings 91, Cavaliers 85

Cleveland – Chris Webber scored 28 points – 20 in the second half – as the Sacramento Kings won their sixth straight and sent Cleveland to its 11th consecutive loss.

Pacers 88, Wizards 84

Washington – Michael Jordan entered the game earlier, matched his season-high in minutes and led a fourth-quarter comeback, but the Wizards still lost as Jermaine O’Neal had 26 points and 21 rebounds.

Hawks 119, SuperSonics 116, OT

Atlanta – Glenn Robinson scored a season-high 37 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 31 as the Atlanta Hawks ended a three-game losing streak.

Nuggets 85, Spurs 81

Denver – Junior Harrington hit a 20-foot jump shot with 8.5 seconds left and preserved the win with a steal as Denver ended a six-game losing streak to the Spurs. Juwan Howard and James Posey had 23 points each for the Nuggets, who hadn’t beaten San Antonio since Dec. 14, 2000.

Trail Blazers 77, Rockets 71

Portland, Ore. – Rasheed Wallace scored 16 points – all in the second half – and Arvydas Sabonis had six points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and a career-high six blocked shots for the Blazers

Jazz 99, Clippers 94

Los Angeles – Matt Harpring scored 24 of his career-high 30 points in the second half, including a tie-breaking layup with 41 seconds left. John Stockton finished with nine points, which made him the the 38th player in NBA history to reach 19,000 points.
