New Mexico guard in satisfactory condition
Albuquerque, N.M. – New Mexico guard Senque Carey was hospitalized in satisfactory condition Tuesday after being taken from the court on a stretcher during a game against Northwestern State.
Carey went down with 7:41 left in the first half Monday night and barely moved for about 10 minutes while medical personnel tended to him. He was placed in a neck brace and removed from The Pit.
He was conscious when brought to University of New Mexico Hospital. The hospital said Carey’s condition had been upgraded to satisfactory but would not release details on Carey’s injury.
Carey appeared have collided with Northwestern player Byron Allen, who was driving to the basket.
Western Kentucky forward to miss season
Bowling Green, Ky. – Western Kentucky forward Todor Pandov will miss the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his left knee during the season opener.
The 6-foot-9 Bulgarian is expected to have surgery in the next few weeks and be ready for the 2003-04 season.
The school said Tuesday it will attempt to get Pandov, a junior, a fourth season of eligibility. Pandov redshirted during the 2000-01 season.
Pandov averaged 22 points and eight rebounds in two preseason games.
