Big 12 Women: Texas smothers McNeese State

? Stacy Stephens scored 15 points, and the No. 16 Longhorns smothered McNeese State, 90-25, Tuesday night in the best defensive showing by the Longhorns in 26 years.

It was the fewest points allowed by Texas since a 72-24 win against St. Mary’s in 1976. The 65-point difference was Texas’ biggest margin of victory since a 109-44 win against Texas Christian in 1983.

Stephens led six Texas players in double figures. Kala Bowers and Alisha Sare each scored 12, Heather Schreiber had 11 and Jamie Carey and Tai Dillard added 10 points apiece for the Longhorns (1-1), who benched their starters for most of the second half.

No. 23 Oklahoma 79, Sam Houston St. 52

Norman, Okla. – Maria Villarroel scored 31 points as Oklahoma beat Sam Houston State.

Villarroel, who went 5-of-9 from the free-throw line, also had five rebounds. Beky Preston added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Sooners (2-1), who led 37-26 at halftime.

Alice Johnson scored 19 points and had five rebounds, while Kelley Kramer scored 11 points for Sam Houston State (1-2).

Baylor 103, Texas Southern 50

Waco, Texas – Steffanie Blackmon had 22 points and seven rebounds as the Bears ran their record to 3-0.

Kimberly Davis scored 12 points for Texas Southern (1-1).

Monica Okolo and Ericka Bradley had five rebounds each for the Tigers.

The 6-foot-2 Blackmon was backed by Jessika Stratton and Jordan Davis with 15 points each and Melanie Hamerly with 14 points.

Chelsea Whitaker dished out nine assists for the Bears, who had 33 assists and 12 turnovers.

Missouri 77, Bradley 76

Columbia, Mo. – Kerensa Barr scored 15 points, including two game-clinching free throws with seven seconds left, as Missouri beat Bradley for the Tigers’ 500th victory.
