Jayhawks finish fourth

? Kansas University’s swim team placed fourth in a 10-team field Saturday at the Nike Cup Invitational. KU had a three-day total of 435.5 points, finishing behind North Carolina (959), Virginia Tech (573.5) and Michigan (534).

KU sophomore Amy Gruber placed second in the 100 freestyle in at 50.22, topping her season best time by almost three seconds. KU’s 400 freestyle relay team of Gruber, Jackie Krueger, Aly Colver and Ashley Dower, finished fourth place in 3:27.03.

Kristen Johnson was ninth in the 200 breaststroke in an NCAA qualifying time of 2:17.97.

“This invitational set our team up for the rest of the year. We will keep plugging away to get ready for the Big 12 Championships,” coach Clark Campbell said.
