Event to raise funds for mine removal

Lawrence residents can do their part in removing land mines by attending a dinner next month sponsored by Kansas UniversityâÂÂs Office of International Programs.

The event, part of the international Night of a Thousand Dinners, will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 at Abe and JakeâÂÂs Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.

âÂÂThe goal is for us to raise a significant amount of money as part of the project for land mine removal and to highlight the KU connection to the worldwide problem,â said Diane Carlin, dean of International Programs and the Graduate School.

Suggested donation for the dinner is $15 per person or $25 per couple, or $10 and $15 for students. Money will go to Adopt-a-Minefield, an international organization for detecting and removing mines.

Reservations can be made by e-mailing oip@ku.edu or calling 864-6161. The event will include appetizers and live music from Swing Canyon.
