Cheney State Park visitors have a new alternative for overnight accommodations. Seven cabins have been erected in the West Shore area of the park and are now available to visitors year round.
Each of the cabins can accommodate up to four people and is equipped with shower, bathroom, microwave oven, refrigerator, kitchenette, full bed and bunk bed, heat and air conditioning.
Cabin rental fee is $65 per night on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, and $45 all other days. In addition, a $5 daily vehicle permit is required unless the renter has a current annual vehicle permit.
The cabins were dedicated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 15.
Wildlife and Parks secretary Mike Hayden commended the efforts of a variety of contributors and staff who helped acquire and place the cabins.
Cheney State Park, located west of Wichita, annually hosts about 600,000 visits. Total visitation at all 24 state parks last year was 7.5 million.
Cabins are also available at Cedar Bluff, El Dorado, Eisenhower and Lovewell state parks.
