Wayne F. Unfred

Services for Wayne F. Unfred, 68, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Unfred died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 13, 1934, in Lawrence, the son of Lawrence F. and Evelyn M. (Smith) Unfred. He spent most of his life in Lawrence and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1953.

Mr. Unfred was a heavy-equipment operator at W.A. Dunbar for 12 years and for Youngblood Construction in Branson, Mo., for five years. He was also self-employed with Unfred Ditching.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge of Lawrence Aerie No. 309, Fraternal Order of Police and American Legion Post in Perry.

He married Loretta J. Malone on Jan. 9, 1955. She died Dec. 26, 1986. He married Sandra Sundberg on Jan. 12, 1990, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Nancy J. Bagwell, Lawrence, Sharl A. Spillman, Eudora, and Kathy J. Gowing, Texas; a stepson, Lawrence R. Alumbaugh, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Raelynn Moon, Lawrence; a brother, Dale, Topeka; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Senior Services, sent in care of the funeral home.
