Jesse Montgomery, 16, Eudora, will receive the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 64 at 4 p.m. Sunday at a Court of Honor at Salem Chapel in Eudora. Montgomery has been a member of Troop 64 sponsored by the Eudora Methodist Church since 1996.

Montgomery began his involvement in scouting in second grade as a member of Cub Scout Pack 3064. He was a member of Pack 3064 for four years, achieving the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light award.

In Boy Scouts, Montgomery earned 35 merit badges, received the Mile Swim and Paul Bunyan Woodsman awards, and joined the Order of the Arrow. His troop offices included quartermaster, patrol leader, librarian, scribe, historian and assistant senior patrol leader.

Montgomery attended camp for two summers at Camp Naish, one summer at Camp Jayhawk, one summer at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola, Mo., and one summer trekking at Philmont in Cimmaron, N.M. He also participated in Troop 64’s camping program including several canoeing trips at Bennett Springs, Mo.

For his Eagle Scout project, he planned and directed the building of an outside aviary for a local wildlife rehabilitation facility.

Montgomery is a junior at Eudora High School where he participates in football, basketball, drama club, forensics, Future Business Leaders of America, student council and Scholar’s Bowl. He has been on the honor roll every semester and was a Hugh O’Brian Youth Ambassador his sophomore year. He is the son of David Montgomery and Cindy Higgins, Eudora.

Guy Kirby Montgomery, 14, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to scouts, the Eagle Award. Montgomery will be recognized in a 4 p.m. ceremony Sunday at Salem Chapel in Eudora. Montgomery, the son of David Montgomery and Cindy Higgins, is a freshman at Eudora High School. He is a member of Eudora Methodist Church.

He joined Cub Scout Pack 3064 in September 1995. He achieved the highest rank in cub scouts, the Arrow of Light, and earned all 20 activity pins and numerous arrow points at each of the cub scout ranks.

He became a member of Troop 64 in 1998, earned 34 merit badges and served in several leadership positions. For two summers he attended Camp Naish where he joined the Order of the Arrow. He also attended H.R. Bartle for one summer and High Adventure Camp Alexander in Colorado.

He oversaw the compilation of several decades of Eudora obituaries to aid the Eudora Public Library and Eudora Area Historical Society in their genealogical requests for his Eagle Scout project.

Montgomery attends Eudora High School and participates in football, basketball, Future Business Leaders of America, Scholar’s Bowl and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is on the straight-A honor roll.

James Michael Snow received his Eagle Scout Award Nov. 17 at First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora.

James became a Tiger Cub Scout in September 1989 with Cub Scout Pack 3064, advanced through the Cub Scout program and received the Arrow of Light in April 1994. In May 1994, he joined Boy Scout Troop 64 in Eudora. He earned 31 merit badges, served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster before achieving Eagle rank on Feb. 4. He also received the God and Me award.

For his Eagle service project, he designed and supervised construction of two community bulletin boards in Eudora.

James graduated from Eudora High School in May and attends Kansas University. He is the son of Michael and Willy Snow of Eudora.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Kansas City, Kan., Diocese had its 2002 Interfaith Celebration Retreat at Camp Daisy Hindman near Dover. The retreat was for Boy, Girl and Venture Scouts of all faith in the diocese.

Lawrence Scouts who attended were Christopher Neal, Alex Anderson, Zach Stites, Henry Reiske, Matthew Rogers, David Ohlhausen, Brandon Mailand, Nichole Reiske and Kathleen Finnegan. Adult leaders who attended were Susan Bashinski, Tripp Anderson and Sue Reiske.
