Williams Qualifies: Chris Williams, a Duke University junior from Lawrence, qualified for the NCAA cross country championships after placing sixth at regionals last Saturday. Williams covered the 10K course in 30:15.6, a personal best that earned him all-district honors.

  • Overman JGC Champ: Ben Overman fired a 69 to win the last Jayhawk Golf Club tournament of the year last weekend at Alvamar. Chuck Norris was runner-up with a 70. Chris Ichelson, Van Reichert and Larry Whiteley all carded 73s. In the net portion, Brian Trainer was low with a 55, followed by Mike Stein 57 and Joe Calandrino 59.
  • Winter Wins Five Golds: Adam Winter of the Lawrence Aquahawks won five events at last weekend’s Leroy Garvey Fall Invitational. Four-event winners were Tony Libeer, Emma Reaney and Chelsea Dirks-Ham. Aquahawks who won three races were Caitlin Gallagher, Cameron Case and Zachary Anderegg. Double winners were Andrew Locke, Holly Elder, Reed Grabill, Amanda Bari, Krissey Van Anne, Heather Clark and Chloe Portela. Single-event winners were Mariah Finley, Morgan Flannigan, Kansa Fiori-Brown, Eric Sparks, Marcy Vickers, Molly Albrecht, Hannah Buchner, Julian McCafferty, Faith Kempf and Will Libeer.
  • Bingham Camps: Several baseball camps will be available at the Dave Bingham Academy at Sport 2 Sport this winter, starting with a hitting camp Nov. 29-30. Pitching and catching camps are set for Dec. 21-22. For information, call 832-2202.
  • KU Coach, Mom Win: Kansas University tennis coach Kilmeny Waterman and her mother Jennifer Waterman combined to win the USTA National Mother-Daughter Hardcourt Tennis championship Nov. 9-10 in Montgomery, Texas. The unseeded Watermans defeated fourth-seeded Jane Morrell and Sara Rigdon of Dallas in the championship match.
  • Hole in one: Jim Scott of Dodge City, aced the No. 9 hole at Alvamar Orchards Golf Course on Wednesday. He used a pitching wedge on the par-3, 140-yard hole. It was witnessed by Tanner Scott.
