LINCOLN, NEB. ? Playing without team kills leader Josiane Lima, Kansas UniversityâÂÂs volleyball team was no match for fifth-ranked Nebraska.

The Jayhawks (18-8, 9-8 Big 12) fell in three games, 30-22, 30-25, 30-15, to the Cornhuskers (24-1, 16-0 Big 12) Wednesday night at Nebraska Coliseum.

âÂÂWe played pretty well for most of the match but we faded at the end,â KU head coach Ray Bechard said. âÂÂI thought we served and passed extremely well, but Nebraska caused us some matchup problems Ãi¿½” like they do most teams.âÂÂ

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the first game before the Huskers rallied to tie the score at 5-5. Then, with the score tied 16-16, Nebraska scored five straight points to take control of the game, which it eventually won 30-22. KUâÂÂs 22 points marked the most points scored against the Huskers at home in NUâÂÂs last two matches.

KU senior middle blocker, Kylie Thomas, a native of Sutherland, Neb., who was playing in place of Lima, recorded eight kills in the match, her highest total since she collected nine kills against St. PeterâÂÂs College on Sept. 7.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Rome led Kansas with 12 kills and has now reached double-figure kill totals in six of KUâÂÂs last eight matches. She also led the team with eight digs. Sophomore MB Ashley Michaels added eight kills in 15 swings and two blocks.

The Jayhawks will play their second of three straight matches against top-25 competition when they play host to No. 22 Missouri on Saturday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Horejsi Center.
