Wildcats qualify for NAIA tourney

? Baker UniversityâÂÂs menâÂÂs soccer squad has earned a trip to the NAIA Tournament for the first time in program history.

The seventh-seeded Wildcats (14-3-3) will meet 10th-seeded Simon Fraser College (13-4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the 16-team national meet in Bowling Green, Ky.

Lindsey-Wilson College, the host school, is the No. 2 seed and in the same tournament bracket as the Wildcats.

Baker, coached by Ron Pulvers, did not allow a goal in its two regional games. The Wildcats edged Heart of America Athletic Conference rival Lindenwood 1-0 in the regional semifinal match before shutting out Graceland University, 5-0.

Senior goalkeeper Eric Taylor of Wichita recorded 8.5 shutouts in the 20-game season. Baker has allowed just three goals in the past nine games.

Meanwhile, BakerâÂÂs offense has scored 24 goals in those games, dating to Oct. 9. BakerâÂÂs leading scorer is Barry Cummings, a junior forward from Glasgow, Scotland, who notched 11 goals.
