IN 1977
The Kansas Legislative Council voted in favor of admitting Wichita University to the state school system. At the time it was strictly a municipal school without the term “State” in its title. There was strong opposition to the move by schools such as Kansas and Kansas State universities, who said they feared the “watering down.”
IN 1902
From the Lawrence Daily World: “An epidemic of disease, such as colds and influenza and even pneumonia, is threatened again for this winter. Lawrence has escaped remarkably well for a long time and reason of it has been that the sanitation in the community has been looked after.”
