Letter: Governor who?

To the editor:

I take exception to John Hanna’s “analysis” (Nov. 11) of the governor’s transition. Hanna clearly attempts to hold Gov.-elect Sebelius responsible for fixing the state’s huge budget problem during Gov. Graves’ tenure, saying, “She’d rather have Graves handle that mess so that she doesn’t have to consider quickly breaking promises she made during her gubernatorial campaign.”

What kind of nonsense is this? It’s partisan political nonsense, that’s what. Why shouldn’t Gov. Graves handle “that mess”? He’s the governor! And wasn’t it the GOP, the party represented by Graves, that got us into this budget crisis in the first place?

Graves needs to complete his term and the administration of his policies without trying to foist responsibility and subsequent blame upon his successor.

Hanna’s article shifts responsibility for fixing the budget to the Democratic governor-elect. Is this the type of petty political sniping we can expect to see in this newspaper, which supported the losing GOP gubernatorial candidate, during Sebelius’ tenure? Give Sebelius a chance to do her job when she has the job. We have little to lose and much to gain by giving our new governor a fair chance to serve our state and carry out her plans.
