Firefighters investigate residential blaze

A blaze that ripped through a residence Tuesday morning in southern Lawrence caused $20,000 in damage, Lawrence firefighters said Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called just after 10 a.m. to a home at 316 Park Hill Ter. after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from a downstairs window.

When police arrived, there was concern the flames would spread to a nearby home. But firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes.

No one was at home when firefighters arrived and they were able to get several pets out safely. There were no reports of injuries.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical investigators said the fire was caused by a faulty electrical device for an aquarium.
