Bids were expected soon on the planned 6,500-seat expansion on the west side of Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium. The project was to cost in the neighborhood of $600,000.
IN 1962
The city commission denied a request for commercial zoning south of the Hillcrest shopping area near Yale and Westdale roads. The city said congestion would be too intense for such a move.
State Rep. Odd Williams, Lawrence Republican, said he attached “very little significance” to the Kansas Legislative Council report that approved a controversial section of the council’s committee on education. Among the key recommendations was admission of municipal Wichita University to the Kansas Board of Regents system.
