Marilyn Jane ‘Sandy’ Wakeman

? Services for Marilyn Jane “Sandy” Wakeman, 65, Baldwin, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin.

Mrs. Wakeman died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at her home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1937, in Smith Center, the daughter of Roy Fleetwood and Mary Jane (Neilson) Santner. She grew up in Gaylord, where she graduated from high school in 1954. She graduated from Brown-Mackie School of Business in Salina in December 1954 and Kansas State University in May 1959. She lived in several Kansas towns before moving to Baldwin, including Harveyville, Burrton, Marquette, Longford and Marion.

Mrs. Wakeman worked as a substitute teacher in various school districts and as admissions office manager at Baker University in Baldwin.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, PEO, Hestia Study Club, Girl Scouts, Order of the Eastern Star and the Kansas State Alumni Assn.

Mrs. Wakeman was a charter member of the Kansas Art Quilters and Baldwin Maple Leaf Quilters guilds. She was a longtime member of the Kaw Valley Quilters Guild in Lawrence, Sunflower Piecemakers and Blockheads Quilt Group in Ottawa and the Baldwin Arts Commission. She was a member of American Quilters Society and National Quilters of America.

She married Gordon Dean Wakeman on May 31, 1959, at Danforth Chapel in Manhattan. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Laura Lea Schmidt and Shelly Rae Wakeman, both of Lawrence, and Julie Ann Wakeman, Shawnee; a son, Eric Scott Wakeman, Stillwater, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Baldwin, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
