Boy Scout Troop 64 of Eudora, had its fall Court of Honor Nov. 4 at Salem Chapel. Scoutmaster Glenn Jackson presented Michael Whitten with the uniform insignia for Star Scout rank. Michael presented the mother’s Star pin to his mom, Arlene Whitten. He also is the son of Tom Whitten.

The troop visited the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration office Nov. 9 in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

The troop will be presenting Eagle rank awards this month to James Snow, Jesse Montgomery and Guy Kirby Montgomery.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3462, chartered to Langston Hughes School, had a park cleanup Nov. 9 at Dad Perry Park-West. The cleanup was part of the pack’s participation in the Adopt-a-Park program.

Scouts who participated were Josh Saathoff, Sam Boatright, Thomas Boatright, Gavin Kirk, Nick Andrews, Robbie Andrews, Drake Hofer, Caden Merz, Joey Waisner, Jacob Davis, Dylan Orth, BJ Hambleton, Connor Chestnut, Nolan Frank, Garrett Frank, Sam Corkins, Stephen Graves, Connor Bolen, Kyle Rainey, Jamie Wilson, Matt Carmody, Zachary Bradford, Micah Perala and Chris Klauber.

  • Dens from Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, have been busy. The Tiger Den attended “Boo at the Zoo” Oct. 26 in Kansas City, Mo. Those who attended were Austin Gardner, Bryce Ridgway, Diamond Brockway and Grant Stone. The group was led by Margot Cameron, Tiger Den Leader.

On Oct. 26, Den 2 toured the Prairie Park Nature Center in Lawrence. Those who participated were Ian Gent, Zachary Curran and Mason Robinson. After touring the center, the cubs hiked to Mary’s Lake. Christy Curran, den leader, and Gerie Aiken accompanied the group.

Members of Den 8 toured the Lawrence Police Department Nov. 5. The tour was led by officer Matt Sarna. Those who participated were Kelly Dunaway, Trevor Norris and Calvin Abbott. Adults who attended were Lou Anne Dunaway, Shelly Welcher, George Abbott, Gerie Aiken and Harold Aiken.

On Nov. 6, Den 6 toured the KLZR/105.9 radio station. They were accompanied by two boys from Den 4. Hank Booth conducted the tour and the boys were able to get autographs from some of the employees that are well-known to local listeners. Webelos who attended were William Gibson, Bradley Pickering, Trey Anderson, Justin Stearns, Danny Lee, Dylan Sauer, Aurelius Armstrong and Tyler Gibson. They were accompanied by adult leaders Pam Anderson, Ron Armstrong, Gerie Aiken and Harold Aiken.

Zachary Daniel King, 18, will be awarded Boy Scouting’s highest award of Eagle Scout during a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. He is a member of Troop 59.

For his Eagle project, he designed, organized and led the construction of a mulched path with retaining wall and shrubs around the east side of Central Junior High School. The path connects the north and south parking lots.

King began his scouting career in Cub Scout Pack 3051 at Pinckney. He joined Troop 59 in 1996. He has served as scribe, librarian, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief, instructor, assistant senior patrol leader and crew leader. He is a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow and Tom-Tom Beater in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

He has earned 42 merit badges, the 50-miler award, Snorkeling BSA and the National Camping Award.

King has attended Camp Naish, Camp Bartle and COPE. He has participated in high adventure trips to Colorado, Sommers Canoe Base, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and the 1997 and 2001 Canadian Jamborees.

King is a senior at Free State High School, where he is a member of the orchestra, choir and the National Honor Society.

He is the son of Joe and Cille King, Lawrence.

  • Boy Scout Troop 53, chartered to the First Christian Church of Lawrence, had a campout Nov. 9-10 at the Falley Scout Reservation near Perry Lake. The boys participated in several activities including building a bridge and calling owls.

Scouts who attended were Chris Berger, Joey Berger, Nick Blessing, Nick Chance, Patrick Coffey, Mitchell Grant, Michael Hurtig, Jonathan King, Adam Lignell, Stephen May, Evan Mielke, Tim Muetz, Alex Webster, Jordan Yulich and Alex Zimmerschied. Adult Leaders who accompanied the boys were Ron Spangler, Craig Grant, Eric Muetz, Roger Rieder, Steve Segebrecht and Mitch Yulich.
