s Elwell to play tennis at Iowa
Lawrence High senior Scott Elwell just gave the city another Division I athlete Ãi¿½” and its third tennis player.
Elwell orally committed on Wednesday to play tennis at the University of Iowa next fall, joining Free State senior Emily Wang and Lawrence student Caitlin Collins as D-I tennis players, and Firebird Keith Wooden and Lion Brandon McAnderson as D-I athletes.
Elwell said he might wait until spring to sign his official letter of intent, but said he was happy with his choice of the Hawkeyes.
âÂÂIâÂÂve visited the campus three or four times and really liked it,â he said. âÂÂI thought about places like Florida and California, but wanted to stay in the Midwest.âÂÂ
His brother, Colin, a 2001 LHS grad, already attends school at Iowa, which Scott admitted was a comforting factor.
Elwell placed fifth in the Class 6A state tournament last spring for the Lions, after placing fourth in âÂÂ01. He was fifth in doubles his freshman year playing with Mike Connolly.
