The University Bridge Club of Lawrence announces the winners of its Nov. 9 game which was hosted by Bob and Joan Etherton, Mona Langlois and Marian Davis.
The blue winners were: Henry Wigington, first; Ralph Dunn, second; Bob Etherton, third; Marian Davis, fourth; and Lois Liebert, fifth.
The pink winners were: Bette Lukens, first; Edna Galle, second; Theda Pierson, third; Ailene Bocquin, fourth; and Joan Etherton, fifth.
- The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met Nov. 6 for its weekly game. Six and a half tables competed in a stratified game using a Mitchell movement. Sitting North-South, Bill Hamilton and Barb Hamilton finished first in A and B. Chuck Hedges and Bob Anderson placed second. John Gilbert and Judy Bevan claimed third in A and second in B. Jo Abbott and Lynn Hui took first in C. Playing East-West, Mike Montgomery and Rhonda Montgomery placed first in A. Helen Hufman and Bob Hufman finished second in A and first in B. Artie Shaw and Harriet Olson placed second in B. Jan Darting and Janet Williams took first place in C. Don Brennaman directed the game.
- The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s Monday game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.
The North-South winners were Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn, followed by Lois Clark and Russell LaForce. Jerry Sloan and Don Brennaman placed third followed by Jiambo Zhang and Harry Shaffer. Placing second in the B session were Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler.
The East-West winners were John Hickey and Patt Radford, followed by Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks. Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman placed third, followed by David Rhea and Christie Thomas. Placing second in the B session were Mary Treece and Barbara McCorkle.
- Kansas University men’s basketball coach Roy Williams was the guest speaker at The University Women’s Club’s Nov. 7 luncheon meeting in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union. Williams shared humorous stories about the mothers of his basketball players.
Rita Spradlin, president, reported that the club had met its goal of $10,000 for the women’s scholarship fund. The club will continue to build beyond the amount.
- The Pilot Club of Lawrence hosted a dinner for Lu Ann Hullman, governor of the Kansas-Missouri district, Nov. 11 at the Hereford House. Twenty-two members attended. Members made plans for the Christmas dinner, which will be in December at Vermont Towers.
- Town and Country Republican Women of Douglas County will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Perkins Restaurant, 1711 W. 23rd St. Chris Miller, newly elected Douglas County Republican chairman, will be the guest speaker. The club will give a donation to a food pantry. Guests are welcome.
