Lowell E. Nye

ATCHISON ? Services for Lowell E. Nye, 81, Atchison, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Effingham.

Mr. Nye died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Atchison County, the son of William E. and Lena Belle (Bolinger) Nye. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1939.

Mr. Nye served in the Navy in the Pacific in World War II. He retired from the Atchison City Police Department as a sergeant in 1980. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post No. 6 in Atchison, Wendy’s Morning Coffee Club, and Methodist Men’s Club.

He married Ruth M. Carrick June 11, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Kenneth, Brentwood, Tenn., Donald E., Powhattan, and James L., Lawrence; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the church or Atchison Chapter of the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison 66002.
