Virginia Ruth Sullivan

She was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Pollack, Mo., the daughter of Floyd Orestus and Josie Gaynel (Wigsfield) Hill. She moved to Gardner three years ago from DeSoto, where she had lived for 49 years.

Mrs. Sullivan was an office manager for Deffenbaugh Industries in Shawnee for 23 years. She then worked part time at DeSoto Mini Mart until she retired in May 2002. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gardner and a former member of DeSoto Baptist Church. She was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in DeSoto, DeSoto Sunshine Club, Good Sam Stanley Steamers travel club and the Country Kickers in Shawnee. She was a former DeSoto City Council member.

She married Harry Marvin Sullivan on May 30. 1975, in DeSoto. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Robert Steven Amego, Leavenworth; three daughters, Linda Marie Dowding, Bonner Springs, Sharon L. Nichelson, Kansas City, Mo., and Donna L. Bardwell, Tonganoxie; four sisters, Annie Overstreet, Nixa, Mo., Irene Hackathorn, Newton, Iowa, Mary Boyd, Tiffin, Iowa, and Donna Neighbors, Unionville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A son, Wayne LeRoy Sullivan, died earlier.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner.
