A 42-year-old Leavenworth man was in custody for allegedly peeping into an apartment window early Monday and leading law enforcement officials on a chase that left two officers injured.
A 19-year-old woman reported at 12:52 a.m. that a man was looking into her apartment at Carson Place Apartments, 1121 La., said Lawrence Police Sgt. Mike Pattrick.
An officer who arrived saw the suspect entering his Buick, which was parked in the parking lot, and tried to stop the man. The suspect then backed his car over the officerâÂÂs foot and left the parking lot.
Officers pursued the suspect until he crashed his car at the dead-end of East 19th Street. He apparently wasnâÂÂt injured and fled on foot.
Another police officer was injured while Douglas County SheriffâÂÂs deputies arrested the Leavenworth man about 2:30 a.m. in a tree line east of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The officer whose foot was run over later sought medical treatment at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, but his foot was not broken, Pattrick said. Another officer was treated at the hospital for cuts he received when he ran into a barbed-wire fence while chasing the suspect.
The man was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, attempting to elude law enforcement, lewd and lascivious behavior, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
He was not charged Monday because Douglas County District Court was closed for Veterans Day, and no bond had been set.
