The gate-closing ceremony for Clinton Dam four miles southwest of Lawrence was set for Nov. 30. It would be the first official step in impounding water for the 7,000-acre lake. County commission chairman Pete Whitenight was to preside at the event.

Lawrence residents were beginning to see the first impact of “electronic banking,” but bankers and savings and loan officials said they were not worried by the prospect of computer theft. They said there were enough checks and balances in local systems to greatly minimize the dangers.
