Holiday volunteers needed for elderly

J-W Staff Reports

Agency: Douglas County Senior Services

Address: 745 Vt.

Contact person: any staff member, 842-0543

The holiday season can be especially difficult for elderly people. Douglas County Senior Services offers Adopt a Grandparent to help seniors through the holiday. The center gathers holiday wish lists from seniors. Volunteers buy at least one item off the list and a grocery certificate. The total donation is usually between $50 and $100.

Another holiday program is the Stocking Extravaganza. Participants decorate stockings and submit them to the senior center by Nov. 27. The stockings will be on display Dec. 2-11, and people can vote on their favorite for $1. All will be filled and sent to seniors.

Last weekâÂÂs results

No families have volunteered to help a child with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Families would spend a few hours a week with a 5 to 17-year-old boy for one year. To volunteer, call 843-7359.
