Old home town – 40 and 100 years ago today

IN 1962 – Area students were among those in the 1962-63 Kansas University freshman class who had been ranked first or second scholastically in their high school senior classes.

IN 1902 – From the Lawrence Daily World of Nov. 10, 1902: “The quiet adoption of the biennial election law extends the terms of county commissioners for six years without any legislation enactment. This is of peculiar interest to Lawrence as it means that Jack Watts has been elected for six years and will hold the office of county commissioner until 1909. A.J. Parnell will also have his term extended so that he will serve four years and Hoskinson, the other commissioner, will have two more years to serve. Douglas County seems to be assured a strong board for some time to come.”
