Dermatologists choose Health’s beauty winners

New York ” Three dermatologists, serving as judges for Health magazine’s Healthy Beauty Awards, have chosen a handful of products that they feel actually deliver what they promise.

“These professionals weren’t about to be wowed by a pleasant scent or a pretty bottle. Still, they concluded, hidden among the zillions of launches this year are some real winners,” the magazine’s editors said of the judges.

Health’s best beauty buys of the year, featured in the November issue, include:

“Lamas Cosmeceuticals’ Pro-Vita C Moisturizer SPF 15 because of its “one-two punch of potent antioxidants.”

“Olay Daily Facials, single doses of cleanser that simultaneously clean, moisturize and exfoliate.

“Dr. Brandt Skincare SPF 15 Chemfree, a product that bounces ultraviolet rays off the skin instead of filtering them.

“Clinique’s Moisture Sheer Lipstick SPF 15, cited for its staying power and conditioners, which include shea butter and grapeseed oil.

“Creative Nail Design’s C:U3 Renu Copper Complex Cuticle Therapy Repair Cream with its added copper, which is believed to help skin renew itself by attracting white blood cells, helping with cell turnover and tissue repair.

Men’s fragrance is built around rare agarwood

New York ” Tom Ford, the designer at Yves Saint Laurent, has created his first men’s fragrance for the brand.

The scent of M7 comes from agarwood, a rare wood from Southeast Asia that some consider a powerful aphrodisiac. When it’s burned, its aroma is said to “restore peace to the mind and enhance the practice of meditation,” according to a YSL statement.

It is the seventh men’s fragrance from YSL, hence the “7” in M7. M, says the company, may stand for “masculine,” “magnetic” or just “man.”

Also at the men’s fragrance counter is an update to Polo Ralph Lauren called Polo Ralph Lauren Blue.
