The market

Long live the Farmers Market; may it hurry back.

The curtain has come down on another season of the Farmers Market in Lawrence and the absence of this popular event makes many reflect on how enjoyable and helpful it is for so many.

People gather regularly on Saturday mornings and a couple of weekday afternoons to buy produce, sample other homemade goods and even enjoy some entertainment by musicians performing in the 1000 block of Vermont Streets. There are bargains, edible treats and landscaping material and plenty of healthy socializing. You never know exactly what you’ll find, and that only adds to the delight of such occasions.

It’s a climate where people go to enjoy themselves, and most of them do. Many of the customers leave with foodstuffs or plantings they will relish; the vendors may make a little money and have a good time.

The Farmers Market is small-town living and retailing at its very best and just another of the benefits of being a resident of this community.
