He was born Sept. 27, 1959, in Kirksville, Mo., the son of Monte Ray Milstead and Leah Camille (Murfin) Garrett. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1978 and then attended Kansas University. He moved to Dallas 20 years ago.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Camille and Jerry Garrett, Lawrence; his father and stepmother, Monte and Jean Milstead, Lawrence; two sisters, Andrea Henzlik and Julie Schickel, both of Atlanta; two stepsisters, Kari Garrett and Tari Garrett, both of Topeka; and two stepbrothers, Marc Garrett, Topeka, and Jeff Baker, Nebraska.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Howard School Annual Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
