Lawrence artist Jim Brothers will continue to work on bronze sculptures for the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va., despite its financial problems, he said.
"This is too important, too popular," Brothers said. "It's such a magnificent memorial. It's not about the money anymore."
Brothers, who has been making a series of lifelike bronze sculptures for the memorial, is continuing to work on three additional figures at his Lawrence studio. Although he has received payments for the work he's already done, the amounts of the payments "haven't been as much as we'd like," he said.
Brothers also said he thought the memorial would survive the bankruptcy filing.
"I think this is bigger than any squabble," Brothers said. "It's to honor a bunch of people who did something really important, and they don't need this in the background."
