Marie H. Conway
Aledo, Ill. ? Services for Marie H. Conway, 93, Aledo, were Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Aledo. Burial was in Aledo Cemetery.
Mrs. Conway died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.
She was born May 15, 1909, in Lawrence, the daughter of Anthony C. and Christina (Hitschmann) Hess. She moved to Reno with her family. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School and completed nurse’s training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Conway began working for United Airlines in 1933 and was promoted to a supervisory position over all stewardesses in the eastern portion of the United States. She retired in 1940.
She was a member of Aledo Parent-Teacher Assn., St. Catherine’s Altar and Rosary Society, Mercer County Medical Society Auxiliary and Mercer County Business and Professional Women.
She married Martin E. Conway on Feb. 3, 1940, in Aledo. He died Oct. 12, 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Martin E. Conway Jr., Aledo, and Michael A. Conway, Chicago; a brother, Urban Hess, Shawnee Mission area; a sister, Alfreda Hess, Fredonia; and five grandchildren.
An infant son died earlier.
