Ex-Jayhawk Unseld wins election

Alderman George Unseld, a college basketball player at Kansas in the 1960s and the brother of Hall of Famer Wes Unseld, won election to the new metro government in Louisville, Ky., on Tuesday.

Unseld, 58, an alderman since 1999, drew 49 percent of the vote. He is a retired education adminstrator and businessman who has an undergraduate degree from KU and a masters degree from Western Kentucky.

As a sophomore at Kansas in 1962-63, Unseld averaged 17.2 points a game.

The next year Unseld averaged a team-high 18.4 points a game. He didnâÂÂt play basketball as a senior, quitting the team just days before the 1964-65 season started.

Unseld is a former director and current member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Kansas basketball picks up victory

Kansas UniversityâÂÂs menâÂÂs basketball team has been unofficially declared the winner of the 1992 Rainbow Classic.

On Thursday, the University of Michigan forfeited 112 victories from five seasons, including the 1992-93 season, in which the Wolverines tripped KU, 86-74, in the Rainbow finals in Honolulu.

As a result, Kansas coach Roy Williams now has a career record of 389-92 and another tourney title.
