Donald Louis Trowbridge

? He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Wayne County, Ill., the son of Fred Benjamin and Daisy Belle (Myers) Trowbridge. He moved with his family to the Rochelle, Ill., area, where he graduated from Steward High School in 1938. He moved to Russell in 1957.

Mr. Trowbridge served in the U.S. Army in World War II as an artillery gun mechanic with A Battery, 301st Field Artillery Battalion, 94th Infantry Division from Dec. 16, 1942, to Dec. 29, 1945. He was stationed in Europe and earned four Bronze Stars. He left the Army as a technical sergeant fourth class. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 in Russell, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Assn., and a member of 94th Infantry Division Assn. He had worked as a miller at Wilson Flour Mill and later owned and operated Ace Oil Treating Co. He and a partner also established Bear House Truck Stop in Bunker Hill.

He married Josephine A. McKittrick on May 3, 1946, in Great Bend. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, David M., Wilson; two daughters, Rebecca L. Blocher, Lawrence, and D. Caroline Trowbridge, Lawrence; a brother, James B., Rochelle, Ill.; a sister, Elsie Lamb, Muncie, Ind.; and two granddaughters.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary.
