Boston could miss season; Holliday out a few weeks

? Pro Bowl wide receiver David Boston of the Arizona Cardinals has a partially torn tendon in his right knee and probably will undergo season-ending knee surgery.

Boston is traveling to Dallas this week for a second opinion from specialist Dr. James Montgomery.

“If there’s a tear there, I’ve got to have surgery, and probably my season is going to be over with,” Boston said .

An MRI showed two partial tears of the patella. One was an older tear that apparently was the cause of problems Boston had this summer and in training camp. The second tear apparently occurred in the Cardinals’ loss at San Francisco on Oct. 27.

“It’s unfortunate that this injury would happen now. We had eight games left and I wanted to go out there and make enough plays to get this team to the playoffs,” Boston said.

Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers got good news that defensive end Vonnie Holliday would only be out another two to five weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee Thursday.

The Packers feel Holliday can return well before the playoffs begin and make a significant impact during the stretch run.

“This is not a major knee surgery,” coach Mike Sherman said. “It’s just a scope. Vonnie’s a fast healer and has proved to be that and he promised me he’ll be back.”

Holliday had just returned from a six-week absence because of a torn chest muscle when he got hurt Monday night.

Holliday, who was wearing a shoulder harness strapped tight to his body, initially didn’t want the knee operation but said he hopes it’s a blessing in disguise so his torn pectoral muscle will have more time to heal.
