Malone out with head cold

? Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone, coming off the first scoreless game of his career, sat out Wednesday night’s game against Detroit because of a head cold.

Malone, the second-leading scorer in NBA history, did not practice Monday or Tuesday after going 0-for-7 Sunday in a loss at Seattle.

He missed just five games because of injury or illness in his first 17 seasons. The most recent was last April when an inflamed knee kept him out a game against Sacramento.
