Irene A. Salisbury

She was born Aug. 9, 1905, in Jackson County, Kansas, the daughter of James Arthur and Georgianna M. (Morrow) Ward. She graduated from Delia High School. She lived in the Mount Olive community until she moved to St. Marys in 1934 with her husband. She had lived in Lawrence since November 1995.

Mrs. Salisbury taught at Nieve and Grandview schools in Jackson County. She was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, where she served as communion steward and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of WSCS at the church and the Quilters.

She married Wayne M. Salisbury on May 17, 1928, in Soldier. He died March 30, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Noel W. Salisbury, Greenville, Ind.; a daughter, Madge M. Fraley, Lawrence; two brothers, Artie Ward, Buffalo, and Dale Ward, Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A son, Garold Wayne Salisbury, died earlier.
