Creative picks show up on ballots

During Tuesday’s general election, voters will be offered a chance to write in candidates for all races on the ballot other than for the retention of judges.

Here’s a look at some of the names that were written onto Douglas County ballots during the August primary:

U.S. Senate

Mark Mangino, Kansas University head football coach; Jack Davidson, Lawrence school board member; Keith Dabney, the county’s director of zoning and codes; Adam Mansfield, former candidate for Lawrence City Commission; David Burress, a KU staff member and Lawrence-Douglas County planning commissioner; state Sen. Sandy Praeger, candidate for Kansas Insurance Commissioner; Robert Hemenway, KU chancellor; Mike Rundle, Lawrence city commissioner and former mayor; Bill Clinton, 41st U.S. president; David Shulenburger, KU provost; Bob Eye, attorney and active opponent of the South Lawrence Trafficway; David Dunfield, architect and Lawrence city commissioner; Bob Dole, former U.S. senator; Matthew All, attorney; Dan Glickman, former U.S. secretary of agriculture; Elizabeth Dole, former leader of the American Red Cross; and Mark Creamer, advocate for legalizing marijuana.
