Baldwin falls at state

? Baldwin High’s volleyball season ended with three losses in the Class 4A state tournament on Friday at the Bicentennial Center.

The Bulldogs, making their first state appearance in 31 years, won their opening game against Clearwater but couldn’t maintain momentum, losing 6-15, 15-11, 15-13.

“We looked really good in the first game,” Baldwin coach Jill Brown said. “It was probably the best we’ve played all year. I’m not real sure what happened after that.”

The Bulldogs couldn’t overcome a scrappy Colby team, losing 15-11, 15-8 or Circle, 15-11, 15-9, which Brown said was probably the best team the Bulldogs played.

“It is overwhelming,” Brown said of the state experience. “Since sub-state there’s been so much going on, I think the girls kind of said, ‘Oh gosh, this is big.’ But we plan on going back.”

Baldwin, seeded seventh in the tourney, finished with a 31-10 overall record.
