Police charge suspect in flower-pulling incident

A Lawrence man who was reportedly knocking on the door of a house at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday allegedly pulled up some petunias when no one responded, according to a Lawrence Police report.

Police were called to the 1600 block of Davis Road and saw a suspect matching the description they had been given, the report said.

The suspect ran from police but was caught after a short foot chase, the report said. Police estimated damage to the petunias in front of the Davis Road house to be $15.

Arden L. Gray, 57, 133 Perry Street, was given a notice to appear at 1:30 p.m. June 19 in Lawrence Municipal Court for disorderly conduct and damage to property.

Another dog attack on goats, sheep reported

One of two dogs thought to have killed a farmer’s goats last week may have been involved in another attack three days later, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sunday a black Labrador retriever and another unidentified dog attacked and killed three goats and a show lamb at a farm in the 100 section of East 1800 Road, Baldwin.

The goats and lamb belonged to a 42-year-old man, a sheriff’s report said.

The Lab’s owner was identified and contacted, and a settlement was being worked out with the owner of the dead animals, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said. The sheriff’s report listed losses at $750.

A black Lab was one of two dogs that attacked and killed two goats and a sheep May 23 at a farm in the 1800 section of North 150 Road near Baldwin.

Losses were listed at $2,000. It was unclear Wednesday if the same Lab was involved in that incident.
