Lawrence E. Ward

Jefferson County Graveside services for Lawrence E. Ward, 89, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hardy Oak Cemetery in Jefferson County.

He died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Hickory Pointe Care Center, Oskaloosa.

He was born July 22, 1912, in the Valley Grove community in Jefferson County, the son of Ira E. and Lottie (Stewart) Ward. He attended Valley Grove School and graduated from McLouth High School.

Mr. Ward was a warehouseman/foreman for Hercules until he retired in 1977. He was a cattle farmer and farmed most of his life.

He was a member of Mt. Oread Aerie No. 309, Fraternal Order of Eagles, AARP, Cattleman Protective Assn. and the American Polled Hereford Assn.

He married Ruth Rose in 1939 in Lawrence. They later divorced. He married Jo Ann Clark on Aug. 24, 1964, in Miami, Okla. She died Aug. 19, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Sharkey and Rose Marie French, both of Lawrence; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Russell, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
