Mass of Christian Burial for James Patrick Carr, 41, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with honors by his co-workers at Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.
Mr. Carr died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1961, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Joseph E. and Marianne (Gier) Carr. He grew up in Prairie Village. He was a 1979 graduate of Bishop Miege High School, where he was the recipient of the Jerry Clifford Award for excellence in athletics and sportsmanship. He attended Benedictine College, Atchison, and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in construction science.
Mr. Carr was a firefighter/EMT with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical for the past 11 years. He was chosen Firefighter of the Year in 2000 by the Lawrence Firefighters Union Local No. 1596. He also received the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Firefighter Award in 1997. He previously had been a firefighter in Atchison for 1 1/2 years.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local Union No. 1596.
He married Margaret M. Vusich on June 19, 1992, in Roeland Park. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Amla Elizabeth Carr and Mary Vishakha Carr, both of the home; a son, Charlie Joseph, of the home; his parents, Prairie Village; a brother, Frank J., Berkeley, Calif.; and seven sisters, Jan Richards, Sunspot, N.M., Nancy Carter and Peggy Kittel, both of Lawrence, Lucy Markovich, Plano, Tex., Maureen Carr, Kansas City, Mo., Carolyn Curtis, Loveland, Colo., and Connie Mikelait, Austin, Tex.
Friends may call from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel and after 5:30 p.m. Monday at the church, where a parish wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
