Cubs activate Gonzalez from disabled list

Houston Shortstop Alex Gonzalez was activated from the disabled list Saturday after missing two weeks with a strained left hamstring.

Gonzalez was hitting .259 with three home runs and 17 RBI when he was injured May 9. Chicago optioned infielder Augie Ojeda to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Gonzalez.

In another roster move, the Cubs placed left-hander Ron Mahay on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 23, with tendinitis in his left shoulder.

Right-hander Courtney Duncan was recalled from Iowa, where he was 0-3 with two saves and a 4.50 ERA.

Astros place pitcher on DL, recall prospect

Houston The Astros placed right-hander Scott Linebrink on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right elbow and recalled right-hander Jim Mann from Triple-A New Orleans.

Linebrink, 25, has no decisions and a 6.08 ERA in 14 appearances for the Astros this season. He has pitched 7 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings over his last seven appearances.

Linebrink was placed on the DL retroactive to Monday.

Mann will report today at Houston and should be in uniform for a night game against the Chicago Cubs.
