Adam Fitts, Free State

Sport: Track and field.

Class: Senior.

The week: Fitts won the shot put (51 feet, 1/2 inch) and discus (148-3) to help Free State capture the Class 6A regional title at Olathe.

Comment: “Adam works very hard to improve and to see him cap it off with two regional championships his senior year is fantastic,” FSHS track and field coach Steve Heffernan said. “He is the type of athlete that makes coaching worthwhile.”

Rob Musgrave, Santa Fe Trail

Sport: Baseball.

Class: Sophomore.

The week: Musgrave tossed a three-hit shutout, including 14 strikeouts, in a 10-0, six-inning victory over Ottawa at regional. Entering the 4A state tournament, Musgrave is 10-0 with a 0.24 ERA.

Comment: “He’s been solid for us all year,” coach Dave Watkins said. “He came to us as a great pitcher as a freshman and he got stronger this past year.”
