Purvis still in hospital

? NASCAR driver Jeff Purvis was in serious but stable condition Tuesday after he was injured in a crash at Nazareth Speedway.

Team officials said Purvis injured his head and neck and broke a leg in the collision Sunday with Greg Biffle.

Purvis remained in the intensive care unit at Lehigh Valley Medical Center.

Brewco Motorsports spokesman Dennis Punch said Purvis’ condition is improving but he remains in the hospital until a site for his rehabilitation is determined. The team plans to issue a statement Wednesday about its plans for the No. 37 Chevrolet for this week’s CarQuest 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

During the Stacker2 200 Busch Series race, Purvis’ engine blew while he was exiting pit road, spilling oil. His car hit the outside retaining wall and came to a rest with the nose facing the infield.

Biffle’s car slid through the oil and crashed into driver’s side of Purvis’ car. The race was red-flagged for more than 20 minutes while safety personnel cut the roof off the car to remove Purvis.
