Kansas City, Mo. — Diego Gutierrez and Preki scored for Kansas City as the Wizards beat the L.A. Galaxy, 2-1, Saturday night.
The game was scoreless until the Galaxy's Brian Mullan scored in the 55th minute. The forward, rushing down the field, received a cross from midfielder Simon Elliot near the right corner of the Wizards penalty box. He launched the ball past diving goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi and into the lower left corner of the net.
Three minutes later, the Wizards (2-3-2) answered. Midfielder Chris Klein crossed the ball from about 35 yards away to forward Chris Brown, who attempted to score with a spectacular diving header. Galaxy goalkeeper Matt Reis deflected the ball to the right of the goal mouth and directly to Gutierrez, who quickly headed in the goal.
The Wizards scored again in the 61st minute when Preki received a Stephen Armstrong pass in the center of the field just outside the penalty box.
