Fan injured in Colorado when bat sails in stands

Denver A fan was injured when Atlanta catcher Javy Lopez accidentally threw his bat into the stands in the second inning of a game between the Braves and Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

The woman, who was sitting in the first row behind the Braves’ dugout, was hit in the head after Lopez lost control of the bat swinging at a pitch by John Thomson.

Medical personnel attended to the woman for several minutes before she was helped from her seat and up the steps.

Rockies officials said the woman received a few stitches and was taken Denver General Hospital as a precaution.

Cardinals to look outside downtown

Jefferson City, Mo. The Cardinals will look for a new home outside downtown St. Louis following the Missouri House’s failure to debate a ballpark financing proposal.

The stadium plan would have authorized the state to spend $644 million over three decades, with most of the money benefitting the Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, who want to renovate their stadiums.
